Invisalign Q & A

by Roland Elazegui, DMD

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an innovative, metal-free way to straighten your teeth without the traditional wires and brackets of braces.

This revolutionary teeth-straightening orthodontic system uses custom-made, invisible aligner trays to guide your teeth into the proper position. The gradual approach offered through Invisalign technology is comfortable, practically invisible, and incredibly discreet.

Invisalign treats many orthodontic conditions, such as:

  • Bite problems
  • Overcrowding
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gapped teeth

Invisalign comes without the pain and discomfort of traditional braces and is an effective treatment for teenagers and adults.

Invisalign removable aligners can move your teeth vertically, horizontally, and even rotate them. During your initial consultation, Dr. Elazegui evaluates your mouth to determine if you’re a good candidate.

How does Invisalign work?

Dr. Elazegui takes X-rays and impressions of your mouth to develop your personalized straightening plan. He then generates a digital 3D image of your teeth and mouth. Using this state-of-the-art technology, he maps out the specific changes your teeth require and provides a sneak peak of the smile you can expect at the end of your Invisalign treatment.

After Dr. Elazegui creates your teeth straightening strategy, your custom aligner trays are fabricated. You wear them for 20-22 hours each day, and only remove them to eat and clean your teeth.

Every one to two weeks, you exchange the aligner tray for a new one, as you move to the next stage of treatment. Dr. Elazegui monitors your process through regular appointments scheduled every six to eight weeks.

Invisalign teeth straightening treatments vary from person to person but usually take up to a year.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

The modern approach to Invisalign offers several benefits, including:

  • The ability to easily maintain good dental hygiene
  • Fewer dental appointments than traditional braces
  • Predictable results due to 3D Invisalign imaging software
  • No dietary restrictions because you remove them while eating
  • Discreet teeth straightening because they’re practically invisible
  • Smooth and comfortable aligner trays that cause little or no irritation
